Planet Impact Inc. has become a land owner, and is now leasing land 50 acres of land to HERO (Hamilton Energy Resource Opportunities LLC) which plans to provide Florida with renewable solar energy. The Planet Impact land leased to HERO accounts for approx 10% of Hero’s total land currently allocated for this project. HERO has secured the necessary property in Hamilton County, Florida to apply for interconnect agreements which if approved, along with other county permits and approvals, would then allow it to install a maximum of 100 Megawatts of commercial photovoltaic systems.
The HERO project, when completed, would be one of the largest commercial PV (Photo Voltaic) solar farms in the country to date. The project could possibly provide some of the lowest cost most reliable renewable energy for the county over the next 25 to 30 years. We are hoping 2011 will be the year for legislative action that would mandate regulated utilities to purchase a certain portion of their energy as renewable energy, or utilities will voluntarily expand their use of renewable energy. If those events were to occur we could possibly see an increase in value of REC’s (renewable energy credits) prices and it would be our hope that Hero could show a significant return on investment.
